About 106FMJ

The Mount Scopus 106FM radio station (106FMJ) is a part of the Israeli Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Communication radio project. It was founded in about 2000, and has been managed ever since by local legend, Moti Barakan. The 106FMJ studios are located in the Mount Scopus Hebrew University campus.

106FMJ shares its frequency in the Jerusalem area with a few other educational institutions, and so it got the late evening till the middle of the night broadcast block. The station broadcasts from Sunday till Thursday and on Saturdays, from 8:00 pm till about 3:00-4:00 am.
106FMJ started garnering a lot of interest in 2006 – this was due to several reasons: A few known musicians started broadcasting on the radio, a new show with weekly musical guests started airing on a weekly basis and got some attention due to it's unique character and the radio started promoting itself extensively through the internet, including a close cooperation with the biggest podcast website in Israel, icast.

After several high profile interviews with international acts (such as The Black Lips, Faun Fables, The Melvins and many more), and a series of specials toward the performances in Israel of Mike Patton (with Fennesz) and The Melvins, 106FMJ got it's biggest publicity boost following a rather big article in the Ha'aretz newspaper.
Ever since then, 106FMJ hasn't looked back and continued growing. This humble blog aims to present the vast archive of interviews with highly acclaimed international acts, to the international audience. We'd be happy to get feedback, suggestions, promos etc either through our myspace or our e-mail.

*Tori Amos wasn't fortunate enough to get to the 106FMJ studios during her last visit to Israel, but she did at least get a picture with the radio's own Erez Bet Halahmi!

If you happen to be in the Jerusalem area, you can listen to us on the 106fm wave, or if you're not lucky enough to be in Jerusalem, you can listen to us online through this link (requires Winamp, Windows Media Player or almost any other media playing program).
