"Personally", We don't believe this decade was dominated by the fact that thanks to the Internet, the most obscure band from Guadelupe, Chikenga in the North-East Asian Pacific, can be the favorite group of some really cool dude from Paris . No; these people always existed. This decade was marked by the fact that many more people think they know and have authority, and by the very few others who would know and have authority even without the Internet, but because of its existence are less of an authority.
This of course leads to an overflow of texts, or in the case of this decade summaries - lists and mixtapes. People are either afraid of writing too much, or of saying too little. (Split the following sentence into two) There is really no way to avoid this, but we still wanted to do something. Instead of compiling a collective 106FMJ decade-a summarizing album/song chart which declares itself knowingly subjective but aims to be objective-we'd just limit each participant to a single song and edit those choices into one mixtape.
So, this is what we've done. It's hip, it's hipster, it's indie, it's eclectic, it's avant-garde, it's extreme, it's po-mo, it's name-dropping. But, it's ours and we're proud of it, and we hope you'll enjoy it.
